Bogomolov vs Querrey by Tennisguy

This is the first round of the Houston ATP tournament between Alex Bogomolov Jr. from Russia and Sam Querrey from USA.

Bogomolov is ranked 85 and Querrey is 82, so they are as close as it comes in this department. They have met 5 times in the past with the score being 3-2 in favor of Bogomolov.

Both of these players play very little on clay courts so this is probably not going to be their best showoff.

Querrey has struggled a lot with his game in the past 6-7 months. This year he lost a lot in the very early stages of the tournaments so he really doesn't have a lot of matches under his belt. So far in 2014 he struggle in a lot of matches on his favorite surface (hard) so now that he plays on clay I don't really see him managing very well.

Alex Bogomolov Jr. is a very unpredictable player but when he is in good form he can challenge a lot of decent players. He already won this year against Querrey in the Memphis ATP tournament which is in indoor hard 2-6, 6-4, 7-6(7). He doesn't play that well on clay but I think his game might be a little better suited for this type of surface compared to Querrey's.

Most matches between the two where pretty close so the odds of 1.34 that Querrey has for the win seem kind of strange to me. Both players are probably not at their best point right now but if I have to make a comparison I'll say that Querrey struggles a little more with his game than Bogomolov.

Overall Bogomolov leads in the h2h matchup 3-2 and hea already won against Querrey this year so I think there is some good value in baking him at 3.5.
