Date Krumm vs Jovana Jaksic by Tennisguy
This is a semifinal match from the Monterrey WTA tournament between Kimiko Date Krumm from Japan and Jovana Jaksic from Serbia.
Kimiko is nr. 98 and Jaksic is 137. They haven't met before in a direct. It's pretty clear why that hasn't happened, because there is a 23 years difference in age between the these to players (Kimiko -43 years old and Jaksic - 20 years old).
In this tournament Jaksic has showed she is in a very good from by defeating the following players : Karin Knapp 6-3, 6-4, Luksika Kumkhum 3-6, 7-6(5), 7-6(2), and Julia Boserup 6-3, 6-0. She really showed her fighting spirit in the match against Kumkhum where she had to save 3 match points in the second set. That tells me that she has a lot of character and is going to easily be a top 100 player. She made a lot of direct point with her forehand, which seems to be her best weapon and I think if she maintains herself at the same level she was so far she is going to have a very big chance to get to her first WTA level final.
Kimiko is a very tough opponent for anyone on a good day but I don't know how much she has in the tank for this tournament. Her previous two matches where both 3 setters and almost 2 and a half hours each, and at 43 years of age that counts a lot. It's still amazing that she is at this level at such a age but like I said those last two matches might have taken to much out of her. She is going to meet a much younger and more energetic player who also had a very easy and short match in the previous round.
Given these circumstances I think Jaksic is the one to back in this match, and the odds have some good value so it looks quite good.
