Cobreloa Calama vs O'Higgins by JerryDrake

Cobreloa-Calama
VS
O'Higgins
COBRELOA - O'HIGGINS

Waiting for Lanus

O'Higgins are 4th in the Group 3: Lanus 7, Cerro P. 7, Deportivo Cali 7, O'Higgins 6. In the last round, Cerro will play with Deportivo, O'Higgins will host Lanus: if they win, they qualify to next round.

Chilean Primera División

O'Higgins won their first Chilean championship (Apertura 2013-14) by defeating Universidad Catolica in the final played in December. In the Clausura they are 3rd with 25 points, 7 points behind Colo Colo. Cobreloa are 9 points behind but they are undefeated with new trainer: 2 wins and 1 draw.

Reserves playing

For this match the coach of O'Higgins Eduardo Berizzo will use an alternative team plenty of reserves in order to prepare the best possible line-up for Lanus. It is not clear now which will be exactly the players in the line-up but O'Higgins should play with Diego Chaves (10/2) and Gastón Lezcano (10/1) at the place of Calandria (24/10) and Carlos Escobar (13/0) upfront.

Operation Desert Fox

The home team, called „Zorros del Desierto“ (Desert Foxes) has obtained good results with their new Argentinian coach and former Cobreloa player Trobbiani: 0-0 with 1st placed Colo Colo at home, 1-0 away with Union La Calera and 2-1 at home with 2nd placed Universidad Catolica. Even by not occupying the first places of the table, Trobbiani and his players want to obtain further positive results.

La Madriguera de Calama

The match will be played in Calama (altitude: 2.275 meters), 1.650 kilometers away from Rancagua. Cobreloa have obtained the permission to play at their stadium in Calama. La Madriguera de Calama has a capacity of 4.000 spectators and it belongs to the club which had to build it while they are renewing their main stadium „Estadio Municipal de Calama“.

New law in Chile

In all stadiums in Chile a new law will become effective: spectators can enter the stadiums only with their identity documents and they will not be allowed to take bottle of waters with them. Today the match will be played at 17:30 CET, it means at 12:30 in Calama under a temperature of 26 Celsius degrees.

Marcelo Trobbiani 25 years later

The Argentinian coach Marcelo Trobbiani Ughetto, 1986 World Champion with Argentina, was a player of Cobreloa in the season 1988-1989. As the frist two home games have been played in Antafagosta, this match will see the return of Trobbiani in a home stadium in Calama: „It is my debut after many years and we will play and we will try to be the principal performers of this match“.

Probable line-ups

Cobreloa: Diego Silva; Sebastian Roco, Cristian Suarez, Miguel Sanhueza; Cristian Gaitan, Lima, Perez; Gustavo Cristaldo; Gabriel Mendez, Ignacio Herrera.

O'Higgins: line-up not available yet (players who will probably not play or start from the bench: Pablo Hernández mf. 26/10+5/0, Luis Pedro Figueroa mf. 23/4+5/1, Yerson Opazo def. 24/1+4/2, mf. Braulio Leal 22/0+3/0, Pablo Calandria fw. 24/10+5/1).

Referee: Campusano

My prediction

The Libertadores match with Lanus is decisive for the qualification to next Libertadores stage. For this I think that, given all above conditions (last results of Cobreloa, motivated trainer, altitude, distance, return to home stadium, B line-up for O'Higgins) I try my bet on Cobreloa, following it live and doing some insurance (covering the draw) in the in-play market if they lead. Hoping that the home fans will be like their Zorros del Desierto and able to survive without water.
