Thinking of Libertadores

In Paraguay is scheduled the 8th game week of the Apertura. Cerro Porteño are 8th placed with 8 points and they host Sportivo Luqueño, 7th placed with 9 points.

Next Tuesday night (European time: Wednesday at 3:00), Cerro Porteño will host Deportivo Cali for the last game of the Libertadores group phase, where the Paraguayan team are still on run with 7 points together with Lanús and the Colombian team, all followed by O'Higgins which will host Lanús. Only two teams will qualify to next round.

Similar situations in the past

The last three times that Cerro Porteño played in the Libertadores they have not won the precedent game in Paraguay: 0-1 defeat with Asunción before drawing in Chile 2-2, 1-3 defeat with Libertad before defeating O'Higgins and 2-2 home draw with Olimpia before losing in Argentina.

The only time that they could concentrate in both competitions was when Cerro Porteño defeated the Paraguayan team 3 de Febrero 2-1, and 4 days later also Lanús 3-1.

News from Paraguay

As written by Paraguayan online newspapers, “Cerro presentará un equipo paralelo”, equipo paralelo meaning parallel, alternative team.

The young player Santiago López (18 years old) will make his debut while for the guests there will be only one change compared to the last round: Sergio Vergara will take the place of suspended player Rodrigo Teixeira.

Two different line-ups, call it “turnover”

Cerro against Sportivo Luqueño: Diego Barreto, César Benitez, Teodoro Paredes, Diego Vieira, Diego Vera, Juan Franco, Fidencio Oviedo, Santiago López, Diego Godoy, Rodolfo Gamarra, Guillermo Beltrán.

Cerro against Cali: Roberto Fernández, Carlos Bonet, Luis Cardozo, Danilo Ortiz, Júnior Alonso, Mathías Corujo, Fidencio Oviedo, Jonathan Santana, Óscar Romero, Ángel Romero, Daniel Guiza.

Sportivo won only once in the last seven meetings with Cerro Porteño. In the league they have won the last 2 consecutive away games and now they have the opportunity to win their third.

My bet

Under these conditions I bet on Sportivo Luqueno with Asian Handicap +0.25. Pity that Teixeira (7/3) will not play for Sportivo because of suspension but we can hope in Manuel Maciel (3/2).

Thanks for the tip Jerry, looking forwad to it tomorrow. I'm going to make this double with Atletico Madrid v Villareal. Would it be safe to play on under goals for better odds or should I stick with Atletico to win 1/2 ? I just get the feelings they will do anything to win this game to stay on top of the table. Any thoughts? Cheers

My advice: watch it on TV with a cold beer and wait for the end of the 1st half. Now it is not worth to bet.
