Tennis WTA, Charleston (clay)

First Round

Andrea Petkovic (40th) made a shy beginning of season with 6 wins for 7 losses, but good thing is that she feels well physically and this is very important because she had too many injuries last couple of years. So I expect her to completely launch her season from now because clay tournaments are starting and clay is probably her best surface, this is where she always had good results, either before her many injuries or after.

Petkovic is a smart player who moves well on the court and who can be patient during exchanges, then no surprise to see her comfortable on clay.

Her opponent Lesia Tsurenko (167th) doesn't have the same profile, she is more like most of the tenniswomens, a player with quite strong shots but without good tactical knowledge, so I would say that clay isn't a surface which advantages her "tennis".

Besides, I saw her match last week in Osprey against Dominguez-Lino, an experienced spanish player and specialist of clay who is running everywhere and trying to play smartly, Tsurenko was clueless during most of exchanges and she was often the first one to make a direct fault, then she lost in 2 sets without really worried the spanish player.

I think that we can have a similar match today, so I think that Petkovic will win this match and I will try her win in 2 sets.
