Livorno vs Inter by JerryDrake
There is a friendly relationships between these clubs. Livorno have many Inter players on loan: goalkeeper Bardi, midfield players Mbaye and Benassi and striker Belfodil. Also Duncan is a former Inter player but he will start from the bench.
By studying this preview, should we give much importance to this friendly relationship and fear a possible help for Livorno? Or shall we follow the form and quality of the players?
As we have seen in the last rounds, many teams in Italy fear now to be involved in possible problems related to fixed results. Even teams which already have reached their own main target seem to give their best in every single game. And Inter can not make presents here as they fight for a European place.
The Serie A table has Inter at 5th place with 48 points, only 1 more than Parma, 2 more than Atalanta and 3 more than Lazio, all teams running for a Europa League place. On the other side, Livorno have 24 points and now would relegate to Serie B: 2 points less than Bologna, 3 points less than Chievo.
In their last 12 meetings, Inter won 10 and conceded only 2 draws to Livorno. Livorno come from two consecutive defeats in Turin with Torino and in Bergamo with Atalanta while Inter lost to Atalanta at home 1-2 and then drew at home again with Udinese. Here they had more chances compared to the Atalanta match but young goalkeeper Scuffet saved his team.
Coach Di Carlo stated that his players are very motivated after their two consecutive defeats and they will try to make points tonight. At the same time, he also stated that “the relegation will be decided at the last round”. I doubt it: Livorno will have to play at home against Inter, Chievo, Lazio and Fiorentina while they will have many difficult away games: Juventus, Milan, Udinese and Parma.
As Inter president Thohir stated many times, Inter must play in Europe next year, this is fundamental for his investments in summer when many old Inter players will leave the team and substituted by other new players.
The main danger for Handanovic will be striker Paulinho while I dont think he can fear Belfodil (poor form shown in these last months). Bardi will have the task to stop Icardi, Palacio and even Hernanes who was often close to score in the last games.
Livorno will have to be open in this match and Inter will have more chances to play their favourite game: counterattacks. I bet on Inter. My correct score: 1-3
