Belinda Bencic vs Mathilde Johansson by Tennisguy

In this match from the qualifying round of the Charleston WTA tournament we have Belinda Bencic from Switzerland facing off against Mathilde Johansson from France.

They have never met before in a direct match. Bencic is ranked 137 and Johansson is 140.

Johansson last year managed a 2nd round here in Charleston where she lost in a 3 set match against Lepchenko. She is a decent player but she tends to overreach on a lot of shots which in term causes her to commit a large number of unforced errors. She does have a strong forehand and a fairly good service. In the first qualif. match here she defeated Louisa Chirico 6-1, 6-4.

Bencic is a talented young player that just made her peek in the WTA level tournaments. She defeated Jan Yung Chan in her first qualif. match 6-3, 6-3. She is a good all around player but doesn't really posses a really good "weapon". She mostly likes to put the ball in play and wait for her opponents to commit the unforced error. That might work on some players but for the future she really needs to develop a more aggressive style.

I think this will be a very close match because if Johansson manages to make her game and keep the unforced errors at a low number from the start she might just run away with the first set and eventually the match. The value stands with her I think and they are pretty close matched so it's probably a good pick. pin
