Japan completed the group phase in style scoring 15 goals and conceded none, making an average og 5 goals per match, including their 2-0 win over Spain in their openenr which was supposed to be their hardest. Head coach Asako Takemoto Takakura even said after their comprehensive defeat of New Zealand that her side has room for improvement ahead of the quarters.

Mexico came runners up to Nigeria in their group scoring 8 goals, 4 each past Columbia and China (two hyped teams of the campaign IMO) who had many goalkeeper mistakes, especially Columbia. They eventually got thumped 4-0 by Nigeria in the last round eventhough you could argue they were relaxed due to already sealed qualification.

Mexico will even face a stiffer test today against the best side of the campaign so far. Although under different circumstance, both sides met in the last tournament with Japan winning 9-0. Sure Japan can carry alot of confidence againat a team that is set to face the tourney's hardest test.
