Stadium: Bentegodi, Verona (Italy)
Second placed Roma (61 points, 14 less than Juventus) have the task to keep this position until the end of the season in order to qualify directly to the Champions League 2014/15. In Verona, where they already defeated Hellas Verona 3-1 in January, they face a hungry team which wants to avoid relegation.
What are the motivations for Roma if they are too far from Juventus now? To keep a good advantage on third placed Napoli and to finish the season as close as possible to Juventus. Some players also struggle for their World Cup ticket (Nainggolan for Belgium, Florenzi, Totti, Destro and De Sanctis for Italy) while some others will surely take part of it (Torosidis with Greece, Maicon with Brazil, Gervinho with Cote d'Ivoire).
Francesco Totti, 37 years old, gave two days ago his availability for the World Cup in Brazil. If he plays at his best the last 10 Serie A games he can have some chances. Midfield player Florenzi and striker Mattia Destro also have some chances, it will depend on their performances as well as on those of their main rivals for the “maglia azzurra”.
Chievo are preparing for the clashes against the other relegation teams (Bologna on March 26, Livorno on April 13, Sassuolo on April 19) and they seem to save their energies when they meet strong teams or play on the road, and keep them for the games where they have more possibility to win. Examples: they lost 0-2 to Lazio at home, 1-3 with Juventus in Turin, 1-2 in Bergamo, 1-3 in Florence but they won with Catania 2-0 and with Genoa 2-1 at home.
Corini stated that Roma will have it difficult tonight. I think that coach Corini will concentrate for the clash with Bologna next Wednesday as a victory against Bologna would have a double value for their table while trying to win against Roma could cause them to be extremely tired in the next decisive match.
So, as I am sure that Roma will play a great match tonight, I think that they can win at least by 2. They must also take their revenge on their last season defeat in Verona, when they lost 1-0 in a strange game where some decisions taken by the referee were wrong. It was another Roma, still trained by Zeman, while this one seems to get much more respect also by the referees.
Without Hetemaj, Guana and Dramé Chievo lose a good degree of solidity in the field. Thereau was doubt and he will probably start from the bench. Stoian should play in the attack together with Paloschi while behind them we will see Rubin. I dont understand why Corini does not give more minutes to Lazarevic, he always did well when he played.
Garcia will miss suspended player De Rossi and unlucky Holland regular player Strootman, who got seriously injured some weeks ago. Torosidis should be in the starting line-up after the decisive goal scored against Udinese while Gervinho, Pjanic and Florenzi should all support Totti (and later Destro) and create many score chances for the Giallorossi.
Chievo (probable line-up): Agazzi, Frey, Dainelli, Cesar, Sardo, Radovanovic, L. Rigoni, Guarente, Rubin, Stoian, Paloschi. Reserves: Puggioni, Squizzi, Dos Santos, Bernardini, Aldrovandi, Mbaye, Kupisz, Bentivoglio, Lazarevic, Pellissier, Obinna, Thereau. Trainer: Corini
Roma (probable line-up): De Sanctis, Maicon, Benatia, Castan, Torosidis, Nainggolan, Taddei, Gervinho, Pjanic, Florenzi, Totti. Reserves: Skorupski, Lobont, Toloi, Romagnoli, Dodò, Bastos, Jedvaj, Mazzitelli, Destro, Ljajic. Trainer: Garcia
Not available players: Hetemaj, Guana, Dramé, Paredes (Chievo), De Rossi, Balzaretti, Strootman (Roma)
I bet on Roma to win by 2 or more than 2 (Asian Handicap -1). If they win by 1, I get my stake back.
My correct score: 0-3 Totti, Totti, Pjanic
Bet: Roma AH-1, odds: 2.17 Pinnacle Sports, stake: 8/10
