Robredo vs Thiem by Tennisguy

This is a 2nd round match from the Miami ATP tournament between Tommy Robredo from Spain and Dominik Thiem from Austria.

Robredo is ranked 17 and has a 4-2 record on hard this year and Thiem is nr.86 an is 15-4 on hard courts in 2014.

They have never met in a direct match before.

Dominik Thiem is a young player at 20 years of age who in 2014 started to play at a whole different level he had until now. He managed to defeat some decent players like Gilles Simon, Janko Nieminen, Joao Sousa, Martin Klizan, and also he had a very good match against Murray in Rotterdam which surely game him a confidence boost. He is a good aggressive player who goes for a lot of winners and is not afraid to come at the net to finish points. In Miami he had to get past two qualifying rounds where he defeated Rhyne Williams 7-6(1), 6-1 and Peter Polansky 6-3, 7-5. After getting past the qualifiers he defeated Lucas Rosol in the first round 7-6(6), 6-4.

Robredo started the year well with a 4th round at the Australian Open, but after that not only did he not play a lot of matches but in the ones that he did he was not doing so well. In Indian Wells he lost to Cilic after having a lot of problems against Matosevic in the previous round. He is normally a clay court player but he is getting old at 31 years of age and that passion and determination he had in the past was missing in his latest matches.

Thiem will surely trouble Robredo with his strong forehand and the spaniard's defensive game plane will suffer a lot.

I think Thiem will be super motivated and if he manages to play as well as he did in Indian Wells he has a big chance here against Robredo who is far from being at his best.
