Basel vs Salzburg by Goleador

UEFA Europa League, FC Basel - FC Salzburg

In this match to teams with the quality to play in Champions League will face each other in the round of last sixteen.

After the out in Uefa CL Basel now plays in Euro League. In the last games there vs. Maccabi Tel Aviv the team just played 0-0 in their away game. At home the team won a challenging game with 3-0. The result maybe was a bit too high, Basel scored the goals in this game. In the domestic league, where Basel leads with 5 points advantage. But the last three games they just played draw three times. Especially the last two times (2-2 vs. FC Thun and 1-1 vs. St Gallen) the performance isn´t reflected by the result. In Thun last had a two goals lead and gave it away by conceding the late goals. In the last home game Basel dominated the game, scored the first goal in minute 78, but conceded the equalising goal in 84th minute. The next day article with titles like "Decisive game but uninspired" described the performance of Basel. But not only the shown inefficiency and their lack of ideas is a big problem for the EL game vs. Salzburg. In the game two important starters injured: Serey Die (11/0) and Marco Streller (19/10). Both are questionable on Thursday. But Basel has many other abscences: Voser (23/1), Ivanov (11/0), Schär (15/3), Diaz (12/2), Xhaka (19/2), Safari (14/0), Adili (1/0). Calla (4/1) is not available to play in Euroleague.

Salzburg plays excellent football these days. The team plays a kind of offensive pressing nobody can compete with in Austrian Bundesliga and until now also in Europa league. Sometimes statistics don´t say a lot, but this statistics are just impressive: In Euroleague 10-0-0 with 28:4, 6-0-0 with 30:7 in Austrian Bundesliga since Winter break. Salzburg dominated every of the last games and maybe somebody thinks the last game, a 3-1 win vs Ried, isn´t that high or impressive. Salzburg rested some players in this game and only played at full power in first half, where they scored three goals. Two starters are injured at Salzburg: Alan (21/21), Ulmer (23/1). Ulmer will be replaced by Svento, who showed good performances in the last games and now also is in good form. With Alan missing a very important players is abcent, but Soriano is also in excellent form, and I think Coach Roger Schmidt will play with Mane and Kampl as Wingers and Soriano as only striker or Alan simply will be replaced by Zulj.

For me in this a game the streak of Salzburg will continue and the odds are very nice for this situation. They can defeat every team in EL I think, and if Streller and Die are really missing at Thursday game it will be very difficult to score even a goal for Basel.

Great analysis. Salzburg is a good team and are in great form. The odds is high on them and i believe it will drop the day of the match.

Fully agree with both these bets - really nice placement and timing for such.
Salzburg on the challenge - because the only place that left for this kind of interesting game and power showdown - in their own championship they really dont have any possibility to have some challenges.

Thanks for the commendation!

A small update: Marcelo Diaz, Ivan Ivanov, Behrang Safari, Marco Streller, Kay Voser and Taulant Xhaka are fix abscences for tomorrow, Serey Die is questionable at the time.

Basel will only be supported by about 13.000 fans on Thursday. A small reason therefore are maybe the results in the last time, but the main reason is "Basler Fasnacht", which is a big carneval festivity in Basel.
1000 away fans from Salzburg are expected.
