Leverkusen vs Stuttgart by 20legend

Bayer Leverkusen is in 2nd place with 37 points in 18 matches after 12-1-5 this season. They have done very well so far this season, but with three straight losses in the league they are falling behind, as they are also 13 points behind the fantastic Bayern Munchen. They lost the first league game in 2014 against Freiburg (3-2), and they really have to find themselves again in order to keep Borussia Dortmund (36 points) behind them at the table. They managed to get Andres Guardado on loan from Valencia which could be a good player to add on their midfield. They have also got the option to make the deal permanent after this season.

Robbie Kruse (15/2) is injured for the home team, but the in-form midfielder Sidney Sam (13/7) is available again after his injury. Also the defensive duo Emir Spahic (12/0) and Philipp Wollscheid (12/0) are both available for Sami Hyypiä’s lineup again.

Stuttgart has not done quite that well as they are on 12th place with 19 points after 5-4-9 and 31:35 on goal differences. After losing against Mainz (1-2) at home on January 25th, they almost managed to get a point against Bayern Munchen (1-2) on January 29th, after leading 1-0 until the 75th minute. However, two goals in the last 15 minutes by the league leaders left Stuttgart with no points from that game either. Stuttgart did make a signing as well in the January-window with the midfielder Carlos Gruezo from Barcelona.

Defender Gotoku Sakai (15/0) and captain Christian Gentner (16/2) are the important absentees for Stuttgart, while Marco Rojas (0/0), Daniel Divadi (0/0), Odisseas Vlachodimos (0/0) and Patrick Funk (0/0) are still injured for the away team.

Bayer Leverkusen has a very good history in these games against Stuttgart as they are unbeaten from the last seven meetings with them (5-2-0). They have won three of their last four home games against today’s visitors with 4-0, 4-2, 2-2 and 2-1. The have a 2-0-3 form, while Stuttgart has just produced 1-0-4 from their latest five fixtures. Given the good performance by Stuttgart against Bayern Munchen, I think that Bayer Leverkusen will take another win here. They have to strike back against Dortmund who got three points in their match and is just one point behind them. Stuttgart has huge defensive problems (31-35 on goal difference) compared to today’s hosts (34-19 on goal difference). I very much depend on Bayer Leverkusen to score over 1.5 goals in this match, as they are very strong at home. They got important players back in action (Sam, Spahic, Wollscheid) in addition to Guardado on loan, and a defensively struggling Stuttgart at home should fit them very well.pin
