The winner of this competition has direct access to next Europa League, something that Napoli and Roma should not care much about as they are second and third in the league and they wish to play in the Champions League. For this principle they should not care about it, but we must say that Roma are taking this competition seriously. They already won 9 cups and they played with the best possible line-up against Juventus. Also Napoli will take it seriously as - no matter the Europa League place - they can meet Roma in the semifinal.
Roma and Juventus won this title 9 times, Inter 7, Fiorentina and Lazio 6, Torino and Milan 5, Napoli and Sampdoria 4. Lazio reached 7 times the final, winning 6 and losing only 1 final. Since 2008 the final is played in Rome.
One team between Udinese and Fiorentina will play the final in Rome. So, I think that Fiorentina are interested in this trophy. Diego and Andrea Della Valle are hungry of trophies and we shall not forget that Florence have not won a single competition since 2001 when they won the Italian Cup. One year later they had to relegate to Serie B and the club disappeared. It was the owner of Tod's to take this team back to the top leagues from the 4th league. If Fiorentina will be a finalist (it also depends on Udinese), the other finalist will be one among Napoli, Roma and Lazio. As Roma are the only team not playing in the Europa League I say that the final will be Fiorentina - Roma.
Who will be the team ready to face Roma in the semifinal? Napoli or Lazio? Napoli. The last results can make us think that Lazio are in form and Napoli are experiencing a little crisis. True but Reja's decision not to call up Klose shows that he has chosen the Serie A as priority while Napoli - even if stopped by Chievo in a 1-1 draw, were already concentrated on this match.
We dont know yet what decisions will take Benitez. Will he play with the best players or not? It doesnt matter actually as all are good: If Callejón will not play there will be Pandev (former Lazio player), if Mertens will have a break there will be Lorenzo Insigne (he hit the post against Chievo). If Higuain will not play there will be a good young player called Zapata, he scored one goal in Marseille. If Napoli can do without some good players, Lazio can not do without Klose in my opinion. Many tickets have already been sold and as I wrote in my “Napoli - Chievo preview”, Napoli usually underperform against small teams at home and they find motivations in this kind of matches as we saw also in the unlucky Champions League group stage.
I am sure that Napoli will win and it is possible that they will win by more than one goal. Last news: Hernanes, Candreva and Biglia are doubt!
Correct score: 3-1 Hamsik, Keita, Insigne, Pandev.
Not called up: Behrami, Armero, Mesto, Zuniga (Napoli), Klose, Floccari, Ederson, Radu (Lazio)
