Inter vs Catania by JerryDrake
English Wikipedia writes about him: “Lodi usually plays as a deep lying playmaker known for his passing qualities and is regarded as one of the finest free kick tackers in Serie A”. Italian Wikipedia adds: “He says he learned to shoot free kicks and penalties by watching Diego Armando Maradona's videos, his heroe when he was a child as he is a Napoli fan”.
Ciccio Lodi is the man who has been called from Catania to save them from relegation. He had to leave Catania last summer and the Sicilians substituted him with Greek playmaker Tatchsidis. With coach Gasperini Lodi has found less space in the team. In the meanwhile Tatchsidis was far from expectations and Catania signed Lodi again. He played two games since his return: 2-0 to Bologna at home (1 penalty scored by Lodi) and 1-2 defeat in Bergamo against Atalanta. Because of suspension, he did not play against Fiorentina when his team lost 0-3.
Why am I writing so much about Lodi and not about the game? Because this is the only interesting subject I can find on this game except the possible face-to-face encounter between Icardi and Maxi Lopez.
Inter have 32 points and can qualify to Europa League but we all saw how badly they played in these last weeks. On the other side Catania are last with only 13 points. They are not expected to look for vital points in San Siro but for sure they will make a try as they face a desperate Inter.
I dont know what will happen: maybe Inter will score many goals or maybe they will be blocked again and continue their crisis (I think that Inter will win by 1). I just know that if there will be a free kick for Catania, no matter if they win or not, Lodi has good chances to score it. He already scored once in Turin against Juventus some years ago, he scored once in Rome. I never saw him scoring until now in San Siro.
Statistics say that he scores one goal every 4.63 games. His odds as “anytime goalscorer” is 6.50. It is difficult to score against Inter, true (not really true actually), but to me is important one thing: if a player is motivated or not. In his two appearances since his return to Catania he gave his support already in terms of play and assists: 1 goal and 1 assist against Bologna and a good game played in Bergamo where Catania dominated the first half before losing in the dense fog.
You can not trust Inter for a bet above all with such poor odds. Using a mixture of statistics and motivations of players, I prefer to bet on Lodi as “anytime goalscorer”. We could see him scoring for the first time in San Siro.
