Verona vs Roma by JerryDrake

Another early preview for next Serie A round. Roma will travel to Verona with the mission to win their first away game after a series of 3 draws and 1 defeat on the road: Torino - Roma 1-1 in November, Atalanta - Roma 1-1 and Milan - Roma 2-2 in December, 3-0 defeat in Turin against Juventus this month. Before this series they succeeded in winning 5 away games in a row, the last one in Udine in October.

After their good victories to Livorno 3-0 at home and against Juventus 1-0 in Coppa Italia Roma players will want to maintain their good advantage on third placed Napoli while trying to get closer to Juventus which will play on Saturday night in Rome against Lazio.

This is the best moment for Roma to visit Verona. The Gialloblu have won 8 out of their 10 home games, losing only against Chievo 0-1 and Napoli 0-3. Verona also lost to Milan in Coppa Italia and the team did not appear to be as fit as they were a couple of months ago. They were missing Luca Toni but it is Jorginho the one who will be missed the most in the next games as he signed for his new team Napoli.

Everyone is impressed by Verona results in the first part of the season and Mandorlini's team is still in a very good position in the table. But I think that somehow the players are having a little break and enjoying slowly the achievement of their main target: to avoid relegation. They need just a few more points to achieve this target and think, if possible, at other targets like qualifying for Europa League. At the same time, we shall not forget that some of their best players like Romulo and Iturbe could have already started thinking of joining top teams in the next future. Romulo is a target of Roma and Napoli, Iturbe is one of the most requested players in Serie A.

Rudi Garcia is doing a perfect work in Italy and once again, I think that he will leave no room for mistakes. He will have all of his players available (except Balzaretti and Romagnoli) and will go for a win in Verona. Probably we will see Mattia Destro in the starting eleven together with Ljajic.

Verona reached a turning point, if I can say so in English. I mean: forget what they did, I think now is different.
