On Thursday Inter will visit Udinese at Stadio Friuli for the Round of 16 game. The winner will qualify to Quarter Finals and will play against the winner of the game Milan - Spezia. This tournament is not the favorite tournament in Italy as many teams are used to play with many reserves, at least in its early stages, as every coach gives priority to Serie A.

Even this time, both Udinese and Inter will play with some reserves while some good players will probably rest, like for example Di Natale (Udinese) and Handanovic (Inter). But for many reasons this game will be very important for Inter. By winning this tournament Inter can qualify to the next Europa League. They would prefer to play in Champions League but in Serie A the Neroazzurri are 6th and they risk not to play in Europe next season. Thohir, the new president of Inter, is planning new investments for the near future, and the team must now give their best in order to achieve a better position in Serie A or at least, the Italian Cup final.

Before having a look at the possible line-ups, I want to underline an important statistics related to Inter and their motivations in the Italian Cup. Since season 2004-2005 has won 4 Italian Cups, losing 2 finals against Roma and reaching the semifinals twice and the quarter finals once. Udinese, on the other side, have been eliminated in the Round of 16 in the last three seasons. Last time Udinese reached a semifinal this team could count on many good players such as Handanovic, Alexis Sanchez, Lodi, Isla, Inler, Zapata, Asamoah, Pepe and Cuadrado.

Udinese's coach Guidolin has stated that the Italian league is more important than the Italian Cup. His team will try to beat Inter but if he had to decide whether to win against Inter or Sampdoria, in the next Serie A fixture, he will surely prefer to beat Sampdoria. This statement is confirmed by the recent past of Udinese also in the European tournaments where the Bianconeri have often played with reserves.

Said that, and without forgetting that a football game can not be completely foreseen before it starts as every game is composed by many variables which can not be controlled, I suggest to bet on Inter (Asian Handicap 0 or "Draw No Bet"). Inter should qualify to the Quarter Finals but they could reach also the extra time if Udinese will give their best in front of an half-empty stadium.

Inter coach Walter Mazzari also needs a victory after losing in Rome against Lazio (1-0, goal scored by Klose). The game could be decided by Palacio or Milito.

Probable line-ups

Udinese: Brkic (or Kelava), Heurtaux, Naldo, Domizzi, Basta, Badu, Allan, Fernandes, Gabriel Silva, Maicosuel, Nico Lopez (or Di Natale).

Hallo Fixor, nice that you remember me as tipster here. @alketas: the nick JerryDrake comes from an old comics called 'Mister No'. It was pretty famous in Italy. Good luck and see you soon.
