Lyngby vs Esbjerg by 20legend
Lyngby is 3rd in the Danish 1st Division with 8-1-5 and 25 points this season. They have 27-19 on goal difference and a good 3-1-1 row from their last five games. They will certainly fight for promotion to the Danish Superliga next season as it is only one point up to Horsens (2nd) and seven points up to Hobro (1st).
Esbjerg is in a more weak form at the moment with 2-1-3 from the last five games and they also score as much as they concede with 10-10 on goal difference during these six games. They have 5-2-6 in total with 17 points and 26-20 on goal difference. It is just four points up to the second place which gives a CL qualification spot, so Esbjerg is very much in the title race with also seven points up to the league leaders Midtjylland.
The interesting part is the two different approaches towards this game. Lyngby has been working hard all week with the focus on taking their chances and to mentally be ready for doing their best, when it counts the most for the club. Another fact is that even if they play in 1st Division, Lyngby have several players with many seasons of experience from the Danish Superliga, and should not be underestimated tonight.
Esbjerg’s coach Niels Fredriksen has been the former coach of Lyngby which means that he knows most of the players, but with the squad he has chosen, it should not be a walk in the park for Esbjerg to advance into the quarterfinals tonight. He has rested a lot of key-players because of a tight schedule of games coming up in Superligaen against league leaders Midtjylland this weekend, Elfsborg in the Europa League next week and FC Copenhagen in two weeks.
Esbjerg’s coach tries to point out that Lyngby has an important game against Velje BK (4th) to remember this weekend. However, Lyngby will go all out in order to proceed at their home stadium here. Esbjerg is able to win the game without all of their regular first-team players missing, but they will really be tested here. Lyngby is in a good shape now, but they have bad memories from last year as they lost against Esbjerg (2-1) in the quarter finals. They will certainly have the opportunity to get revenge with a weaker Esbjerg team than usual in this game. I think that this could go either way actually, but Esbjerg will always be favorites on paper. I therefore chose to pick over 2,5 goals here as it looks quite open in my eyes. However, I am certainly confident of at least three goals involved here as both teams will get their oppertunities with all of Esbjerg's changes in their lineup.
