Gasquet vs Nadal by Rostick

Gasquet
VS
Nadal
Gasquet played the tournament of his life here at Us Open, and he`ll play the match of his career on saturday against Rafa Nadal, with an US Open final as the prize for the winner.

The frenchman was in poor form prior to the US open, and nothing was announcing this semifinal for him. Gasquet had two easy wins before losing a set to Tursunov in the 3rd round, with the russian retiring in the fourth set. After that, Richard played two marathons against Raonic and Ferrer. It has to be said that Raonic should have won, since he was clearly the better player overall, but Gasquet showed grit and determination to come out on top. Against Ferrer, Richard again won in 5 sets, but he deserved to do so. Nevertheless, Ferrer was not at his top leve.

Rafa is the player of the moment, no doubt about it, undefeated on hard courts this season, absolutely stellar performances since recovering from the injury. He had no problems reaching the semis, losing only one set to Kohlschreiber but winning the match comfortably.

Nadal leads the H2H against Gasquet 10-0 and most of his wins were blowouts. It will be extremely hard for Richard to overcome this. He did it against Ferrer (who led the H2H 8-1), but again, David is in poor form since Wimbledon. Rafa will frustrate Gasquet with top-spin on his backhand, exactly like he does against Federer. Also, the physical factor will make a difference, with Richard coming after two long matches and having to cope with one of the fittest players on the tour.

Expect Gasquet to start strong and keep up in the first set, but fatigue will eventually catch up with him and Rafa will cruise to victory. The 8,5 line is decent, it doesn`t even take a blowout for it to be covered in a best 3 out of 5 match.

Rafa to advance comfortably in three sets.
