I will keep this rather short, since the reasons for the bet are pretty simple.

Of course, there is a big diifference in quality between the two players, no point in insisting on this issue. The thing here is that Djokovic loves to cover big spreads, while Berankis is a player who often loses by a big margin.

All tennis fans know that in the last two years the serbian usually won with scores like 6-0 6-2 6-1 in the first rounds of grand Slams. His play is just so consistent and without unforced errors, so it is hard for inferior players to win points and games against him. This year the Djoker dipped his level a little bit, and his form is not top-class (for his expectations), with a semifinal exit at Montreal Masters (l. to Nadal) and quarterfinals exist at Cincinnati (l. to Isner). Still, the serbian is at a very high level and surely he wants to start the US Open strong in order to gain confidence. In these two "poor" tournaments he won twice with 6-2 6-1 and once 6-2 6-0.

Berankis is a natural talent, but he is yet to prove himself on the big stage. His form was disastrous until last week, when he reached quarters at Winston Salem, where he lost to Querrey 3-6 4-6. He is unforced error prone and against Nole, expect balls to fly out and in the net. In the last three tournaments, Berankis lost 1-6 0-6 to Roger-Vasselin and 1-6 2-6 to Yen Hsun Lu !!!

Ricardas has a decent serve but not good enough to earn him games on its own. Djokovic, with his stable defense and fantastic return will be extremely frustrating for Berankis. A big handicap should be no problem for the serbian considering this match-up.

This is the first meeting between the two, so Berankis doesn`t even have past experience on how to play against Nole.
