Stoke City vs Crystal Palace by Rostick

Stoke appointed Mark Hughes as manager this summer, and they look set for another mid-table finish this season, with no european cups aspirations and no trouble with relegation. Today`s hosts played a good game in the first round, losing 1-0 at Liverpool and missing a penalty in the last minutes of the game. This team is solid.

Crystal Palace promoted through playoffs last season, but they look destined for relegation as they have the weakest team in the league at the moment. In the first round of the Premier League, Palace lost 0-1 to Tottenham without ever threatening the opposing goal. The squad is really weak for this level, we can see Kevin Phillips (40 y/o) still playing for this team.

Crystal Palace can`t count on a bunch of players tooday: Parr, Price, Thomas, Bolasie, Murray and team captain McCarthy. They have no depth in the squad and these missings will hurt them badly. For Stoke, Palacios won`t play.

Stoke City: Begovic – Cameron, Huth, Shawcross, Pieters – Pennant, Nzonzi, Adam, Etherington – Crouch, Walters.

Crystal Palace: Speroni – Ward, Gabbidon, Delaney, Moxey – Dikgacoi, Jedinak, Garvan – Gayle, Chamakh, Puncheon.

Stoke won 4-1 at home against Palace in the FA Cup (extra time) last year, with some bench players.

Stoke is a great home team and against this kind of opposition they should do the job without too much stress. Palace has no strength in attack, while the home team defends very well, so Stoke should have the whole 90 minutes to look for a winning goal. I reckon they will get at least 1, probably 2, they played much better then today`s opponents in the first round of the season.

Look for Stoke to start strong at home. Palace is nowhere near Premier League level at the moment and away games will really be a struggle for them, at least in the first few months of the season.
