Admira vs Rapid Vienna by Goleador
Admira last week fired their coach Toni Polster one day before the game against Sturm and new coach Lederer was presented right afterwards and sat on the bench vs Sturm. In that game also new defender Katzer, former Rapid LB, played his first game for Admira since he left the club in 2004.
But the start in his this game wasn´t good at all: After five minutes played Schwab made a mistake in midfield, Sturm played a fast combination football and Kainz scored the 1-0. Until HT Sturm was the better team and had good chances to score the second goal, but the weren´t efficient. Short after HT, in minute 52' Admira equalised with the first goal in this season, which was not scored by a set piece. From this point on it was an open game with good chances on both sides, but it remained 1-1, which was likely for both teams to get a point and a bit self-confidence.
Although of the good result I want to say the firing of coach Polster was hasty and blindfold. Polster came from a 4th league team and there were a lot of doubts if the coach has got the quality for Bundesliga, but after three games (and a few weeks of preparation) nobody can get used to a new team and to be honest the squad of Admira hasn´t got that much quality.
Rapid last round played the big "Wiener Derby", the most prestigious game in Vienna, when Rapid faces Austria. Evertime these club meet each other the stadium is sold out and the atmosphere is great. In this game the most likely result was a draw, and it came how it must come: 0-0. It was not a good game at all, but in the beginning Rapid played a bit better than Austria but in 27th minute Palla received the red card. Now Rapid was confronted with the same problem like in the game vs Sturm, which was won 4-2. In the game vs Austria the opponent now made the game, but the passes on both side were not exactly and creating chances was difficult. It was obvious, that both teams were really nervous.
In second half it was an equal game, although Rapid was one man down. Rapid even had better chances, as Trimmel hit the post after a freekick and another direct freekick from Petsos was saved by Lindner. All in all a deserved draw. In my opinion the draw was a good result for both teams and for the fans, as no one can be sad or angry about this, at the begging of the league and looking forward to EL.
Generally, I think that the problems of Admira aren't solved with changing the coach. The squad is one of the weakest this year and Admira is No.1 candidate for relegation. Rapid on the other side is now with playmaker Hofmann again, who had problems with his back before the game vs Austria. Rapid also is looking forward to EL and this game should give them selfconfidence for the game vs Dila Gori. Also the suppport from the fans of Rapid will be great as Mödling is near Vienna and a lot of Rapid fans will be travelling to this game.
