Bayern vs Barcelona by Jamesington
It is a little disappointing that these two teams have had to meet in the semi-final as it means one great side, deserving of a place in the final, will not get one. However, had either of these teams been drawn against Madrid then the same could have been said. Regardless of the outcome this should be a match to remember and hopefully when we go into the second leg the tie will still be alive and there will be something to play for.
After not winning either of their past 2 away knockout stage matches, losing in Milan and drawing in Paris, it is tough to fancy Barcelona to get a win in Munich - with the home side so strong. On the other side of the coin one has to wonder if Bayern, as strong as they are, are really better than this Barcelona team, which in the past few seasons has been talked of as the best to have ever played the game.
It will certainly be an interesting tie but my bet here is the draw. Bayern are not unbeatable at home, we saw that when Arsenal beat them 2-0 in the second leg of their tie, but the first leg is likely to be cagey with both sides more keen not to lose rather than to push for the win.
Whilst both sides are strong in attack and defence, Bayern will surely be vulnerable to the brilliance of Messi should he play and there is no question that the Bayern attack - with Gomez, Ribery and Robben - are capable of causing Pique and co. some problems.
Barcelona have drawn 3 of their past 5 Champions' League matches so for me this really is the most likely outcome today, with midfielder Xavi telling the press that "It's important we score an away goal, it's vital" I think 1-1 is the most likely outcome so whilst a medium stake on the draw is the suggested bet a small stake on 1-1, available at 7.5, is recommended too.
