Newcastle vs Benfica by Jamesington

I have tipped Newcastle to get at least a draw in the first leg of this tie and I think that result will be crucial if the Magpies are to qualify for the semi-finals.

Newcastle have an excellent home record in Europe this season - out of 6 matches played they have won 4 and drawn 2, conceding only 1 goal in over 540 minutes of football.

Their away record is also good, having lost only one game - and this was after they had qualified from the group stages, the game was effectively meaningless.

Benfica are a good team and Newcastle will have to play well to beat them but the calibre of player in the Geordies' squad is much higher than it was only a few seasons ago - in fact, it is much higher than it was even a few months ago. Moussa Sissoko has added a real spark to the squad which was often lacking due to Hatem Ben Arfa's serial injury problems and with the likes of Cabaye, Cisse and Tiote in the team, Newcastle can field a seriously strong starting line-up.

I feel the price is wrong and it should be lower for what is really a fairly even tie, aside from Newcastle's injury problems I don't see any real reason to pick one side over the other. With the value on offer I suggest a medium stake on the English side to

As some one said, you are not betting, you are doing Bingo.
The league table always tell the true about a team. If Newcastle was such a good team, they would not be fighting to stay in the Premier league. They play tonight then 3 days after they play Fulham on Sunday and play Benfica again in 7 days; I can't see them going through to the semi-final with that squad. Staying in the Premier league is more important to them than winning this competition.
And don't forget Benfica is a very good team.

Direct quote from my tip: "Benfica are a good team".

Thanks for your constructive criticism 'expert'. Did you watch the match? Newcastle were very unlucky and apart from two foolish errors they easily held their own in the match. Hitting the post twice and losing 3-1 due to a penalty and sloppy backpass suggests the game was closer than the scoreline indicates.

From BBC Sport: "Despite hovering three points above the relegation zone in the top flight following Saturday's 4-0 thrashing by Manchester City, Newcastle matched their

Mati, this pick was made before the first leg. Odds of 6.00 seem great value! I'll be on that.

Jamesington, ok, already understand. I bet Newcastle to score first with odds 2.1 in bwin, because not see other way, if home team to qualified. Good luck.

Nice one Mati. I have taken them at 3.25 to win the game. Think that is pretty good. Fingers crossed!
