Barcelona vs Special Market by Jamesington
Lionel Messi scores goals.
Lots of them.
The Argentinian is in the form of his life (in 2012 he broke Gerd Muller's record for most goals scored in a calender year) and there is no reason for that to change anytime soon, he is the top scorer in La Liga and is only one away from the top of the charts in the Champions League.
Currently Cristiano Ronaldo is favourite in the market - this is presumably because Real are drawn against Galatasaray, whereas Barca have a (supposedly) more difficult tie against Paris St. Germain in the quarter finals - the fact he is one goal ahead of Messi can not be the sole reason for him being favourite as Gala's own striker Burak Yilmaz is tied with Ronaldo, yet is available at 9/1.
Messi and Barcelona are likely to have at least four more games in the competition (as are Ronaldo and Real Madrid) and it should not be ignored that the little master always seems to perform on the big stage - getting goals when his side most needs them [having been two goals down to Milan in the last round, Messi scored two in a 4-0 win at Camp Nou].
Throw in the fact that Messi has won this award for the past four years (five years ago it was Ronaldo) and 2.375 begins to seem a massive price.
Frankly, I'd probably back Messi at 2.375 to do anything.
9 points - Messi top scorer in this season's Champions League.
