Liverpool vs Southampton by Blackcrow

Liverpool
VS
Southampton
Liverpool have won their last two games to sit 6th on the table, and are just four points off second spot. A few injuries to key players and some sloppy goals they conceded have prevented them from being further up the ladder but with the 4-1 win at West Ham (18th) and the 3-0 home win over Huddersfield (10th) they look like they may be back on track. At home, they have won three and drawn two of their games, as they have also drawn 0-0 with Manchester United (2nd), drew 1-1 with Burnley (7th), beat Arsenal (6th) 4-0 and beat Crystal Palace (20th) 1-0. Liverpool have conceded just one goal in these five home games, as opposed to allowing 16 goals in six away games, and the main reason for this is that opposing teams come to Anfield and sit back, and hope not to concede early on. They know that Liverpool have some quality up front with Mane, Coutinho, Salah and Firminho, so they do not want to get exposed by opening up.

Expect Southampton (13th) to follow this formula and hope for some success, which has served them well in the past, where they have drawn 0-0 and 1-1, and lost 2-1 in their last three visits to Anfield. The away side have some erratic form coming into this game, as they lost 1-0 at home to Burnley (7th), drew 1-1 at Brighton (8th), won 1-0 at home over West Brom (16th) in their last three games. On the road, as well as the draw in Brighton, they have lost 2-1 at Stoke (14th), won 1-0 at Crystal Palace (20th) and drew 0-0 at Huddersfield (10th). So they have scored in three of their last four away games, but this is where they have gone and played their natural game. On the road at Anfield, that will be a different story

Looks like a game where Southampton will look to hold out Liverpool as long as possible but eventually can the home side doing enough to score the goal they need. While Soton have some quality in their side, Livepool are much the better side, and can see some of their players, who used to play for Southampton, step up for them once again. Liverpool to edge this 1-0 or 2-0pin
