Carolina have a 6-3 record as they look to keep pace with New Orleans who won yesterday. They have won their last two games, beating divisional rivals Tampa Bay, 17-3 on the road, as they passed for 210 yards and ran for only 85 yards but their defence stepped up with two interceptions and a fumble to limit them to 154 passing yards and 85. rushing yards. Last week they beat another divisional rival, Atlanta, 20-17 at home, as they had 137 passing yards but a massive 201 rushing yards and two rushing touchdowns as they controlled the ground game. Though they allowed 313 passing yards and gave up two passing touchdowns, they did get one interception, and their defence did well to stop the run once again, allowing just 53 yards on the ground. Only two teams have run for more than 100 combined rushing yards, and that was Philadelphia and New Orleans, two of the better teams.
Like Carolina, Miami are playing their 9th straight game, but unlike their opponents, they are not heading into the bye, as next week they play Tampa Bay, who they supposed to have played in week one but got cancelled. That was treated as a bye weekend for them, which means they will have a long season in front of them. Miami have a 4-4 record, and have lost their last two games, losing 40-0 at Baltimore where they allowed 121 passing yards and two touchdowns but 174 rushing yards, and look to Carolina to use that model to run over them here. In return, they had only 176 passing yards and gave up two interceptions, as well as just 45 rushing yards. Against Oakland last week at home, they lost 24-27 where they had 311 passing yards and three touchdowns but once again had only 76 rushing yards. It is the fifth time in eight games they have run for less than 100 yards, and after trading their main running back Ajayi, they will struggle to move the ball on the ground on this Carolina rush defence. Oakland managed 300 passing yards and one passing touchdown, as well as 84 rushing yards and two rushing touchdowns.
Miami have lost by 14 or more points in three of their four losses and in each of these games, they ran for 30, 56, 45 and 76 yards so with the likelihood they will struggle to run the ball, then they will have a hard time scoring on this defence. With two wins in a row, and one of them by 14 points, Carolina will look to maintain this momentum, and with a bye after this game, will be looking to win well, and give themselves a well earned rest. Carolina look to have two much on both sides of the ball and like them to be too strong here, and believe they will win by at least two touchdowns
