Sporting Lisbon vs Juventus by Pacifier

Sporting were ranked outsiders in the race for qualification to the next round and that is proving to be the case here except they can spring up a surprise and beat Juventus in this game. Their 2-1 loss in Italy a fortnight ago put them three points behind the Turin giants and needing a victory to go level with them on six points apiece. Barcelona is expected to beat group strugglers Olympiakos in Greece and secure top spot, so the fight is on on who secures the second qualifying spot. Jeremy Mathieu will miss this game after picking up an injury in the narrow 1-0 win over Rio Ave at the weekend. Bas Dost and Seydou Doumbia will continue to battle for the centre forward role while Acuna, Fernandes and Martins will provide support.

Juventus are well on course of securing 2nd place in the group bar any surprise result. They will be eager to avoid defeat, but they have a squad well capable of securing victory on any ground. They are scoring a lot of goals in recent weeks and five of their last six games has seen over 2.5 goals scored. They did well to be a big-spending AC Milan side at the San Siro over the weekend by 2-0. The real test of character is here though as Sporting have been playing quite well themselves. Higuain will lead the line in a usual 4-2-3-1 formation with support from Mandzukic, Dybala and Cuadrado, but Costa could be drafted into the starting lineup to replace either of MAndzukic or Cuadrado. Matuidi is also pushing for a start and he could partner Pjanic at the heart of midfield.

Sporting need the three points direly and will attack from the onset here. They played quite well in the defeat in Turin and will fancy their chances of an upset here and considering how Juventus have been uncharastically shipping in goals in recent weeks, Sporting will be confident of scoring. But Juventus offer a big threat on the counter and Dybala in very good form will fancy his chances here. Higuain will be boosted after his brace against Milan and he will hope to get among the goals here also.

I anticipate an open game here, but I do not think Juventus will have it easy here. Sporting have shown they are not afraid to play, especially when playing at home as they showed against Barcelona and I think they might just surprise everyone here, but they are not exactly sound at the back themselves and have conceded in all three games in this group. I like the look of an overs with both team getting on the scoresheet. 2-1 win for either side looks probable.
