Manchester Utd vs Benfica by Pacifier

Manchester United hit a rough patch in the last two weeks but they have done quite well to navigate through a run of four straight away games. They were often criticised for being defensive in their approach but manager Jose Mourinho won't mind and he followed that up with another defensively solid game against Tottenham at Old Trafford where the red devils emerged victorious through an 81st minute Martial goal. Before that goal, they had looked flat going followed and it was always going to take a moment of luck or genius to get one in and the latter was what happened. It is still unclear when record signing Pogba will return and Fellaini is still injured so Herrera and Matic should continue in central midfield. Mata should come into the squad after sitting out the Tottenham game and we could Miki drop to the bench after a series of underwhelming performances, while Lingard could also come into the starting line-up to start on the right. Lukaku will lead the line and he will be eager to get among the goals after going on a four game drought.

Benfica are having a torrid European campaign and risk total elimination unless they can start picking up victories. They face an uphill task here though as United are looking unbeatable on this ground with victories in all seven games played at Old Trafford, scoring a whooping twenty-one goals and conceding ONE, yes one! Douglas is injured for this game and Luisao is out through suspension after seeing red in the reverse fixture in Lisbon. Lisandro Lopez could come in to replace him but he has not played for over a month and this could be an unforgivable ground to give him a run in.

United will qualify with a victory here and they should considering how poor Benfica have been in Europe this season and I reckon United could win to nil which is priced at evens currently, but Benfica need for points means they will need to come out all guns blazing here and if United decide to rest either of Jones or Bailey, error prone Smalling and Lindelof would need to come in and they might nick in a goal. So, I rather take the quote of 2.10 on united winning by at least two goals, a selection that would have paid out in six of seven games played on this ground and I reckon Lukaku and co will need to rediscover their scoring touch ahead of the showdown with Chelsea at the weekend.

I tip United to win fairly comfortably here, 2-0, 3-0, looks very probable.

@antoni 1st leg Benfica played at home and did nothing against a defensive Man United. How can you predict a surprise here. Benfica won't have choice, try to score or will be eliminated, however it's hard to get point at OTP. Score 3-1 4-1

Guys... don't expect much from Benfica against United...

They are playing such a poor football that their main focus should be to win their domestic matches (where they are winning, but still struggling against weak teams...).

In addition, main defenders Luisao and Andre Almeida are out for this match.

I'm seeing a 3-0 for Manchester and I'll be surprised if Benfica gets any decent result here.. and even surprised they can score any goal.

Good analysis and nice pick!
Good luck!
