Dinamo Zagreb vs Rijeka by Dwofl
The build up to this game is always entertaining to watch especially if you are familiar with the Croatian 1st division. Not to go into much detail on that tho, but we go to our preview straight away. Dinamo Zagreb are 10-time champions and have lost their throne to an ambitious squad led by Slovenian strategist Matjaž Kek who won both the league and the cup last year for the first time in club history. This year Dinamo Zagreb are on a crusade to take back the throne and will spare no expense or morality to get back where they believe is their rightful place.
The hosts are coming into this game after struggling to two consecutive draws against eternal rivals Hajduk Split and a strong NK Osijek side who conceded a late Henriquez goal at Maksimir stadium deep into injury time. This was just a minor setback for Dinamo Zagreb as I believe they will be back to winning ways as soon as tomorrow.
Dinamo will not miss any key players for the derby game with Rijeka and they have wider gaps between games to rest players due to a lack of European football.
Their last home defeat came against tomorrows visitors in the cup final match back in May, however they are unbeaten at home against Rijeka in the league since 2010. and not even Kek has managed to rally his team to overcome this curse.
The fun is on the other side of the pitch tho. The visitors are coming into this game with a low morale and an even worse line-up. HNK Rijeka is a shadow of it last season self after the departures of key players (Andrijašević and Ristovski) and have found a decent replacement in their Brazilian technician Heber (who is absent for this game) and a few other additions who did not find their place in the team just yet. They are coming off a 1:2 home loss against NK Osijek where they had the lead and then fell apart and conceded 2 goals. Yellow cards were the main talking point after that game as Maleš, Mišić and Vešović all got booked and will miss tomorrows game because of that. The team was also hit with the news that lead attacker Gavranović will also miss the game due to sudden illness.
The visitors have everything stacked against them coming into the game tomorrow and I honestly can't see anything but a home win in this one. A bad record against the hosts, players absent or injured, low morale and the traditional refereeing nudge for the home team will add to another away loss for HNK Rijeka.
Good luck everyone.
