Vancouver and San Jose come into the play-offs in different form. Vancouver had qualified for the play-offs a long time ago and it seems that they took their foot off the gas which resulted in them being winless in their last three games, while San Jose got two wins and a draw in their final three games to qualify for the play-offs.

Despite that I'm not concerned about Vancouver's form and fully expect them to turn it around here. They are a formidable home team, losing just three of their home matches all season and they are undefeated at home in their last seven matches in a run which includes four wins.

The key for me here is San Jose's awful away form. They lost 12 of their 17 away matches, scoing just 11 goals and conceding 39 goals in the process. This contributed to a goal difference of -21 which is the worst for any team that has ever qualified for the MLS play-offs. They drew their last away match against Vancouver just a couple of weeks ago but as I said Vancouver had taken their foot off the gas. Prior to that they suffered eight losses in nine away matches with their only in that period coming against the awful LA Galaxy. Most alarming is that in seven of those matches they conceded three or more goals and in four of those they conceded four or more goals.

San Jose will be confident given the way they qualified for the play-offs but Vacnouver are the better team and have home advantage which is crucial against a team that struggled away from home, so I expect a comfortable Vancouver win.
