Botafogo vs Corinthians SP by Saconex
Botafogo (7) vs Corinthians (1)
Botafogo are placed 7th, 2 points behind the last Copa Libertadores spot. After their relegation in 2015, they bounced back to the Serie A in 1 year and finished 5th last season. Its obvious that they are focusing on finishing top 6 with 9 matches left now. They are coming from a disappointing performance in the midweek, away vs Avai (16) ending 1-1. Also the match before this was disappointing, losing away vs Vasco da Gama (8) 1-0. But at home they are normally very solid, home record this season: 8-2-4 with 24-17 in goal difference. They are getting defender Joel Carli back from suspension tonight. Are missing Airton, Roger, Gustavo Bochecha, Jonas & Marcinho.
Leaders of the league, Corinthians, aren’t in their best form either. They are also coming from a draw, 0-0 at home vs Gremio (4). They lost 2-0 away vs Bahia (12) before this, and they are without a win in 5 away matches now (0-3-2). Total away record are solid though: 8-4-2 with 16-8 in goal difference. As it stands they have a 6 points gap down to Palmeiras (2) & Santos (3), and they will probably be happy with 1 point tonight. Paulo Roberto are injured for tonight.
* Botafogo won this match 2-0 last season.
* Last 10 meetings: 5-3-2
Chances for a draw should be big here in my opinion. Corinthians isn’t in very good form, and it seems to be hard for them to take down tight matches as they did earlier this season. The hosts are normally very strong at home, and have a very good historic record against tonights guests. But still, Corinthians are placed 1st, and with only conceding 18 goals this season they will probably frustrate the hosts into a draw here. So a draw with under 2.5 goals are my pick for this one.
