Group E match Maribor vs Spartak Moscow will be an interesting match. This is one of those matches where it can go either way but I do not agree with those odds.

First let me start with that Group "E" is a verry tricky group, and NK Maribor and Spartak Moscow are the outsiders (The favorites Liverpool and Sevilla had a game agains each others against the same time that evening) of the group (that is in my opinnion) but one of them could qualify for Europe League at least.

For that reason the first game between the two sides should bestarted aggressively because today will decide which one is the favorite, but once again I do not agree with the hosts being underestimated.

Maribor play in front of their fans but their main objective for the match will be strong football in defense line and as always they play extremely strongly in defense in their home games, and it is no accident that there is a fairy tale, that Maribor is like a fortress for the visiting teams.

All players are available for Maribor and there is no reason to think that Spartak Moscow will get away easy today. The home team are highly motivated for the opening match in Champions League.

On the other hand there is Spartak Moscow who are back in the Champions League after winning their first Russian championship since 2001. Spartak’s last deep run in an international competition dates back to the 2010-11 season where they were eliminated by Porto in the quarter-final of the Europa League.

The current Spartak Moscow side lacks a bit of experience when it comes to be competitive three times a week. Spartak will have to do some adjusting to things to work but I really don't see them as big favorites here like bookies did.

The away team do not have lots of missing players for this game. All other players are fully fit and ready to play except Roman Zobnin and Artem Timofeev who are injured and Luis and Serdar Tasci are not fully fit for today.

On paper Spartak Moscow is the better team but things are decided on the field, not on paper...I expect both teams to play defensive and when it comes to defense Maribor is the king of the fortress and have more experience.

the major problem of spartak is coach carrera the guy completely lost. he made spartak champion of russia because lucky event alenichev created current spartak but resigned after losing in euro cups to larnaka last season. now when carrera has to change something he doesnt have clue what to do. all his life he was an assistant of coaches. it sure maribor win or draw

i feel it could be even 1 half win by spatak 1:0 but maribor come back 2:1 in all moscow derbies spartak failed to win but leading in first half vs dinamo moscow 2:2 (2:0) vs lokomotiv moscow 3:4 (2:0) in second half carrera always try to hold on leading score as most of italian coaches however he is tacticaly incompetant. he is good as assistant of conte however he is not conte.

I hate to break it to you guys but Maribor is not as strong as it seems (trust me, I live in this city since I was born). Defensively very disciplined and patient, there is no doubt about that. Offensively quite probably the worst team in this season's edition of CL. If Spartak scores first - which is highly probable - then Maribor will struggle a lot to score one back. Under 2.5 is for sure a better option for this match.
