Newcastle vs Tottenham by PatrickBateman
Newcastle have quickly returned to Premier League, and did that in style - by winning Championship. Their preparation games this summer have also been successful and they are looking like they could stay up this season. They beat Hearts, Bradford, Wolfsburg and Verona, tied with Preston and lost to Mainz. Newcastle didn`t bring in any spectacular players in this window, with Atsu (Chelsea) and Manquillo (Atletico Mdrid) being the most recognizable names. Thauvin, Anita and Gouffran have left the club among others, but Rafa Benitez will still have respectable team capable of avoiding relegation. The only Newcastle`s missing for this game will be that of DeAndre Yedlin who is out with hamstring injury.
Tottenham have finished last season pretty successfully, but with a slightly sour taste as they fell apart near the end. During their preseason they faced some of the best teams in the world and recorded mediocre results. They beat PSG and Juventus, but lost to Roma and convincingly to Manchester City. However, those were only preparation games and they will be expected to produce at least the same performances as last season. Their complete lack of transfer activity left everyone surprised, with even Danny Rose publicly critising decision not to bring any new players, and there are no signs of that changing. It`s true that Tottenham have great players on all positions, but enforcement or two would come in handy, especially since they sold Walker to City. Rose, Trippier, Nkodou and Lamela are out for this game due to injuries, while Son and Wanyama are questionable.
Tottenham are coming into this game as favourites, but it won`t be easy for them. Opening games are always hard, and we saw that once again on examples of Chelsea, Liverpool and even Arsenal. Besides that, St. James Park has always been a ground which is hard to conquer and Newcastle will be eager to make a statement at the beginning of new season. Newcastle have found a net in all of their games this summer, while it`s been rarity to see them leaving the game without goal last season. Therefore I think they have a good chance of scoring against Tottenham`s defence which has been known to struggle on numerous occasions. On the other hand, it is hard to see Tottenham being shut down considering they have one of the best offensive lines in the league lead by powerful Harry Kane. This shouldn`t be a particularly closed game since neither coach nurture that style of play, and we should see an interesting match. With all that being said both teams to score looks like a right way to go here.
