Brighton Albion got their promotion after finishing second in the Championship a modest point below Newcastle United. The team boasts an impressive home record from last season with 15 wins, 3 draws and 2 losses to Bristol City and Newcastle United. Today, however, they take on a completely different beast in Manchester City.
The difference in team quality is off the charts and with no disrespect to the host team, the full attention will be centered on the visitors to see how the high-profile signings will perform. Man City tasted competitive football in the International Champions Cup and have already tested themselves against tougher opposition. The visitors have played a 3-5-2 formation with new signings Danilo and Walker occupying wing back positions and a whole host of midfielders going forward. The change of formation has served them well in pre-season as they managed to beat West Ham, Spurs and Real Madrid with a 2+ goal margin.
Brighton have 2 players injured (Baldock and March) while Man City are still dealing with the long-term Gundogan injury with Nasri and Mendy both sidelined.
The hosts are undoubtedly motivated to take on one of the more serious title contenders, but despite their impressive home record I believe they will concede 2+ goals in this game simply due to the wide range of threats they will have to deal with. Jesus, Aguero, de Bruyne, D. Silva, B. Silva, Sterling and Sane are all goalscorers and I believe City will prove in this match why they are among the title-favorites for this season.
That said, -1.5 asian handicap for this one. Good luck!
