West Brom vs Bournemouth by PatrickBateman
WBA didn`t have particularly successful preseason, having won only two out of six games. However, friendlies shouldn`t be real reflection of their ability, as Pulis` teams usually thrive in competitive environment. Last season they didn`t show particular defensive solidity, but they still managed to finish in the solid 10th place. It was similar in the preseason, having conceded in all but one game. WBA didn`t bring in any big names this summer, with Jay Rodriguez standing out as the most recognizable name. On the other hand, Darren Fletcher and Sebastien Pocognoli have left the team. For this game hosts will be without McAuley and Morrison who are injured, while Evans, Brunt and Chadli are not fully fit but should be ready.
Bournemouth had a good preseason, both on and off the pitch. They won majority of their preparation games, narrowly losing to Valencia and drawing with Napoli. On the transfer market they pulled off some great signings which will improve their team in all parts of the field. They brought in Begovic, Ake and Defoe while keeping the whole team. They will be hopeful to further improve now that they have established themselves as a respectable Premier League team and with these signings it looks likely. They showed good performances during preseason and look ready to go. Junior Stanislas and Callum Wilson are definitely ruled out with injuries, while Cook and Defoe are not 100 percent, but should be available.
Pulis didn`t bring in many players and his team looks pretty much the same as last season. Bournemouth, on the other hand, pulled off some impressive signings and they looked much better in their summer games. Bournemouth failed to score only once during the preseason and managed to net two against Napoli. It is an indicator that we will once again be watching offensively sound Bournemouth, who had the best attack in the league aside from top seven teams last season. WBA had not been as defensively solid as they would`ve liked last season, and the summer didn`t bring improvements. Also, they will be without McAuley here, while Evans and Brunt are both struggling with light injuries. I see Bournemouth getting on the scoresheet here, while they will have hard time keeping hosts silent, especially knowing WBA`s set-pieces ability. And while this game probably won`t produce goal galore, at least 1:1 seems likely to me. 3 out of 4 Premier League meetings between these two saw both teams scoring and I find it valuable to back that selection once again.
