The Singapore league once again takes another short break (after the League Cup break in July) as teams now will turn their focus on the Singapore Cup.

After Tampines early exit in the League Cup, they got back into league action about two weeks ago and beat the struggling Brunei DPMM side. They were in control of the game but it took an 83rd minute pk goal Shahdan Sulaiman to finally kill off any hopes of Brunei making a comeback.

Albirex continued where they left off in the League Cup finals as they thrashed Geylang 5-0. The win sees them extend their lead at the top of the league to 9 points (they played two more games) over second placed Tampines.

Albirex has been a machine so far and could be treble winners again this season. They have already won League Cup and is the current league leaders. There are only three teams who can stop them, Home United, Tampines and Phillipines side Global (an invited foreign team for this competition). They are the three strongest sides left in this competition. Unlike the League Cup, Tampines will be going for it in the Singapore Cup. They have a full squad to use and will field their strongest XI available. Albirex will once again be a favourite today but with this first leg being played at the new built Tampines Hub, I believe Tampines have a decent chance of upsetting them.
