Kansas City vs San Jose Earthquakes by PatrickBateman

Kansas-City
VS
San-Jose-Earthquakes
In this U.S. Open Cup semifinal Sporting Kansas City will host San Jose Earthquakes.

Sporting are still Western Conference leaders, despite winning only one game out of the last five in MLS. However, all the others finsihed as draws and they are standing undefeated in the last twelve competitive games. They are also still undefeated at home this season, which was mostly down to their solid defence. After beating Chicago they hosted Atlanta on Monday and played 1:1. They were slightly better team, coming into chances more often and controlling the tempo. They even got the lead in 59th minute when Feilhaber converted penalty, but could`t hang on to three points. They had a great opportunity near the end to put the game beyond doubt, but couldn`t take advantage of it and it came back to haunt them as Peterson brough Atlanta point in 91st minute. Vermes rested some of his key players in that game and they should be fresh to face Earthquakes. The only Sporting`s missing here will be that of injured Caleb Porter.

San Jose have risen to play-off places thanks to pretty solid form lately. They lost only three games out of last eleven, winning nine of them. However, they are still having trouble on the road, having lost last four games pretty convincingly while recording only two victories. All of their points away from home came with a clean sheet, while in all other games they conceded at least twice. Last time out they beat Columbus at home 2:1. It was a solid, controlled win in which San Jose went to 2:0 up by the 56th minute and focus on keeping the lead. They managed to do that, with Columbus scoring only consolation goal, and Earthquakes continued their quest for play-offs. Unlike Sporting, San Jose didn`t have luxury to rest their key players with almost all of them playing 90 minutes. Cummings, Pelosi and Godoy are out injured, while Hyka and Colvey are questionable.

If Sporting win here they will host either Red Bulls or Cincinnati in the final, which will be huge advantage for the team which is still undefeated at their ground. They`ve also already won this competiton three times while San Jose are still waiting for their first final appearance. San Jose have improved lately, but away from home they are still looking far from convincing. Sporting on the other hand have managed to pass through Gold Cup period undefeated despite missing number of important players, and it is hard to see them not taking this opportunity. It`s been a rule for San Jose`s away games this season that if they concede they lose and it will be very hard for them to get the result here. This is a cup match played on one game and everything is possible, but I don`t think Sporting will miss this opportunity, especially since they are in good position in MLS and don`t have reason for concern. They rested their key players, they are playing at home and they are facing average team which struggles on the road. Therefore, I think Sporting will come out victorious here, easy way or hard.

Good luck!
