Schwartzman vs Opelka by Vilcox
ATP Montreal starts today and I have another tip that has value in my opinion. Diego Sebastian Schwartzman will face Reilly Opelka for his first hard court match after playing on clay. He surely was hoping for a better opponent as Opelka is very dangerous on this surface.
Diego Sebastian Schwartzman, as I said before, have played two clay court tournaments after the grass season. He didn't play that good as he lost in both tournaments in the quarter finals against Kuznetsov and against F.Mayer. He doesn't like to play on this surface as it does not fit with his style of play. He likes long rallies and we will see very few long rallies today against Opelka. This season, Schwartzman is 4-5 on this surface but most of these wins came against very similiar players to him as Cuevas, Khachanov and Ferrer. His only big win was against Sam Querrey at the beginning of the season. This will be his first hard court match after about 4 months and, as I said before, he doesn't like to play here. He will not feel that comfortable and he will suffer a lot against Opelka and his serve.
Reilly Opelka, on the other hand, have already played 4 matches on this surface after the grass season. He lost in the first round in Washington and Atlanta (both matches in 3 sets) against Medvedev and Jaziri but both of these players like to play on this surface. Also, here in Canada, he had to play qualification matches as he won in straight sets against Stevenson and Escobedo. He was absolutely incredible with his serve in those matches and even his responding game was good as he didn't need tiebreaks to win.
I think that this surface is a big advantage for Opelka. Most of this match will depend on the american serve and, considering how he is serving, I see him clear favourite to win this match. Schwartzman, as I said multiple of times, doesn't like this surface and he is coming to this match after playing two clay court tournaments. He needs time to adapt to a "new" surface. I don't see him winning against the big Opelka and his powerful serve today.
