Mahut vs Whittington by Marci
In last match of a first day qualification for Masters in Montreal we will see a match between two guys in horrendous form. Australian Andrew Whittington (252.) will play against French Nicolas Mahut (111.). Both players seems to enjoy doubles lately more than singles and are having better results there.
If we look at results on challenger level he is at 5-9 and that was all on Australian and Japan tour while on US soil he tried to qualify for 2 tournaments and managed to use bad form of RUblev in first round before losing to Gaio 2-0 in second and in Miami he lost in straight sets too against Kicker. If we look at his last matches on hard court in last month we can see 3 losses in first rounds on challengers all against average players Aragone (546.), Koeppfer (282.) and Norie (199.). His strongest area is serve what he showed by reaching first round of Wimbledon where he lost against Monteiro.
Mahut isnt playing very well this season and wit 35 on his back he is having hard time playing both singles and doubles and it is being shown by results and rankings, but he still is trying and have occasional victory which isnt expected like against Johnson, A. Zverev or Sock., but he isnt as good as he was before. Although he still is winning against player beneat him as Novikov or Fabbiano who both lost in straight sets and well Whittington is in their range so I dont see why he wouldnt lose too in straight sets. Both have great serves, but Mahut is better at volley and even behind the line.
