Aston Villa vs Hull City

Aston Villa finished in the middle of the Championship last season, with a record of 16-14-16 and goal difference 47-48. The biggest reason for this was their bad performances on their travels, because they were pretty solid at home with a record of 12-8-3, 33-20 goal difference. Reports are saying that the optimism is back in Villa, and the fans have belief that they can turn things around and get back to the Premier League this season. They are coming from their final test, a 0-0 match vs Premier League team Watford. Aston Villa will miss Jack Grealish, Mile Jedinak, Jonathan Kodija & Albert Adomah for this.

Hull City got relegated from the Premier League last season, and I don't think it will be easy for their new manager Leonid Slutsky to get them back already this season. They have lost a lot of key players, as Harry Maguire, Robertson, Curtis Davies, Huddlestone & Elmohamady (now playing at Villa). Hull will miss Will Keane, Ryan Mason, Moses Odubajo & David Marshall here, David Meyler are reported doubtful.

* Aston Villa have won 9 of last 10 home games vs Hull in all competitions.

This is for sure one of the most interesting matches of round 1, and I think Aston Villa will get off with a good start. With John Terry ready, their defence should be even stronger than last season (5th lowest conceding team last season). I don’t see how this Hull team can fight for a promotion spot, and I think it can be a tough season ahead for the guests. 1 rounds are hard to predict, but I think Villa should be able to take 3 points, so this is the pick for me this round.
