Thiem vs Anderson by Vilcox
The number one seed, Dominic Thiem, faces the big Kevin Anderson for a place in the quarter finals of ATP Washington. I see great value for Anderson to win this match as odds are too high and should be much more balanced in my opinion.
After an amazing French Open where he lost only in the semifinals against the king of clay Rafael Nadal, Dominic Thiem seems to have lost his form. In fact, his grass season was very disappointing as he lost in the 2nd round in Halle, in the 1st round in Antalya and only after 3 matches in Wimbledon in 5 sets against Berdych. His first round match here in this tournament was very easy against Laaksonen (not a strong player on this surface) so he won in straight sets 6-3/6-3 very easily.
It's clear that Dominic Thiem's favourite surface is clay and he doesn't like to play on hard courts. In fact, his best result on this surface this season were quarter finals in Indian Wells. In most of the tournaments played, he lost very early in the 2nd or 3rd round...even in Australian Open he lost before quarter finals. I think that he will suffer a lot against Kevin Anderson, a very dangerous player on this surface.
After retiring from French Open against Marin Cilic, Kevin Anderson played a decent Wimbledon. In fact, after defeating Verdasco, Seppi and Bemelmans, he lost only against Sam Querrey (semifinalist in that tournament) in 5 sets after a big battle of 3 hours and 11 minutes. He likes to play on this surface and he had not big results in the last years as he had a lot of injures and he didn't play at his best. His serve helps him a lot and he usually play very good against Dominic Thiem.
In fact, these two players met 5 times and Kevin Anderson won every single match. All of these matches were played on hard courts and this will be an huge advantage for Kevin Anderson. I think that Anderson's serve will make big difference (he is serving very good as showed yesterday) and I think that he will win this match. If you want to stay safer, I suggest to bet on Kevin Anderson to win a set but I prefere Anderson to win with much more value.
