Apollon vs Aberdeen by Hassy

Apollon
VS
Aberdeen
Usually I expect the Cypriot teams to be a big on the negative side and play more cautious football but Apollon seem to differ in that regard. They managed to score a crucial away goal but head into the second 2-1 down. This is the angle I will be taking in this match. In the previous round Aberdeen managed to score twice in Bosnia and I strongly feel that they will need to hit the net in Cyprus to reach the Europa League play-offs. The hosts know that a 1-0 win will see them through so they will be desperately trying to score the goal that sees them through but the Aberdeen camp, knowing that an away goal will mean the Cypriots needing two or three goals to go through will know the importance of also scoring.

Aberdeen will go into the game knowing that they have the confidence of scoring goals on their travels, they have netted in seven of their last 10 Euro road trips which gives me confidence of an away goal tonight.

Adam Rooney has not travelled with the Aberdeen squad for Thursday's Europa League third qualifying round second leg against Apollon Limassol. The striker, 29, has a thigh injury and will try to regain fitness in time for the Dons' Scottish Premiership opener against Hamilton Academical on Sunday.

Apollon are very strong at home. They have lost only once in 23 matches, although some of that disadvantage has been taken away by UEFA moving the tie to Larnaca due to ground regulations. That being said with the heat and humidity I expect a very tough night for The Dons and cant see them keeping Apollon out for 90 minutes. They have also scored in their last 23 matches on the trot which gives me confidence of them scoring. However, Derek McInnes' side have exited the competition at this stage in each of the last three seasons and will desperate not to do so once again. That means an away goal is a must and with the odds slightly above evens I expect that price to shorten throughout the day.pin
