Tursunov vs Muller by Vilcox
After a bye in the first round, Gilles Muller will make his debut in Washington against the number 820 in the world, Dmitrv Tursunov.
Gilles Muller is playing his best tennis of his carreer where, on the other hand, Tursunov it's almost an ex player.
In Fact, Dmitrv Tursunov played very few matches this year (only 4) and only 15 in the last 2 years. Considering these matches, he was able to win at least a set only in 7 matches (and he won 3 of those matches) losing most of times in straight sets. He started this season in January in Australian Open losing in 3 straight sets against Stepanek. Then, he lost in 3 sets in Wimbledon against Fognini and in two sets in Hamburg against Paire. His first win of the year came just yesterday against Krueger in 3 sets. Even if he will play at his best, I just don't see him winning a set (or even the match) against one of the most in-form players right now.
Gilles Muller (number 21 in the world), on the other hand, played an amazing grass court season winning in S-Hertongebosch, making the semifinals in London and losing only in the quarter finals in Wimbledon. He was even able to defeat Rafael Nadal 15-13 after almost 5 hours of tight battle.
His first hard-courts tournament of the season was not that good as he lost in the semifinals against Isner in straight sets. That was still a good result but his level of tennis was not that high with a lot of unforced errors. In fact, he won in 3 sets against Halys and he straight set against Paul before losing against Isner in two sets (he was broken even 3 times and this is a terrible result for him, especially against Isner and on this surface)! Maybe, he needed time to adapt to the "new" surface and to feel good again on the court after two weeks of break. Now, he should be able to perform at his best and he will play against a very weak player at the moment.
I think that Gilles Muller will have easy life against Tursunov. Tursunov didn't win a single set this season before yesterday and I'm not expecting him to win it against Muller that plays very good on this surface (he won his first tournament of the season here on hard courts). I like these odds that sounds like a gift to me.
