Basaksehir vs Club Brugge by Dwofl
A thrilling encounter between Istanbul Basaksehir and Club Brugge has us goal-drunk as we expect more of the same in the second leg.
Last week's visitors Istanbul Basaksehir received a harsh welcome by their Belgian hosts as they went 2 goals down before they could even suck up the atmosphere. Going into half time it seems coach Avci produced the right team talk as the players got their act together and orchestrated a thrilling turn-around through Elia and twice through Mossoro. Unfortunately for them Brugge left center back Stefano Denswil secured the 3:3 draw just 5min after the second Mossoro goal.
Basaksehir are a tough home team that rarely looses at the Fatih Terim stadium, however they do concede goals more often than not and Brugge are certainly not a goal-shy team coming off a 0:4 thrashing of Lokeren in the Jupiler League. Basaksehir's home unbeaten streak is as impressive as any, however, they managed to keep just 7 clean sheets out of 24 home games and those were against weaker teams (Galatasaray an exception, of course).
Club Brugge are no strangers to away defeats but they do know how to find the net and after scoring three times in the first leg they will have to look for more goals today if they want to keep their CL dreams alive. Brugge fell short of scoring only 6 times in their last 24 and with the pressure to score against Basaksehir we might be looking at another goals bonanza in Istanbul. Basaksehir's last 7 home games went above 2.5 goals with 5/7 being wins.
Center backs Chedjou and Kormaz as well as midfielder Belozoglu and striker Batdal are unlikely to start for Basaksehir. While coach Leko has to deal with injured defender Poulain, left winger Acolatse and striker Wesley who is reportedly out due to sickness. All other players are cleared and available to start.
Basaksehir are bookmaker's favorites for today's match and after that thrilling comeback in the first leg I can see why. Brugge are coming to Istanbul to score goals and nothing but a win works for them. Despite the mentality being in the right place I don't think they will manage to secure the win today against a tough opponent surrounded by a raging Turkish crowd.
That said, I'm gonna go with a home win and over 2.5 goals. Good luck!
