Ajax vs Nice by Dwofl

After a first leg draw, Nice travels to Amsterdam to look for a way through to the CL play-offs against last-year's Europa league finalists Ajax Amsterdam.

The first leg of this exciting match-up produced a modest 2 goals giving Ajax the valuable psychological advantage going into the rematch at their home turf. Statistics from last week were more or less dominated by the visiting team as Ajax managed to place 14 shots, 6 on target and a slight (55%) possession advantage. Ajax managed to avoid injuries to key players for this important rematch as only Sinkgraven and Alblas remain sidelined due to pre-season injuries. Playmaker Zyech, wonderkid forward Kasper Dolberg, Younes, Van de Beek and Shone are all fit and are sure to start from the first whistle.

The visitors fell short of a positive first leg result as the goal from Mario Balotelli was not enough to secure optimism going into the second leg. Despite enjoying a more successful pre-season than Ajax, they did not manage to secure the win.

Dolberg and Kluivert under-performed in the first leg but I expect them to step up their game in front of a sold-out Amsterdam Arena. Ajax plan to pay tribute to Abdelhak Nouri who suffered brain damage after collapsing in a pre-season friendly and this can only further motivate his former team-mates to honor Nouri with a good performance and ultimately a win against Nice.

Going into the game, Nice have an injury worry as the only Nice scorer and key player (Mario Balotelli) from the first leg is set to miss the game with Ajax as Alessane Plea is a probable solution for that position. Wylan Cyprien's injury stretching from last season has not yet fully healed either.

Ajax did not bulk under pressure in the first leg and I see them only gaining confidence for the rematch as they are in a good position to secure the play-offs. Attacking football and a lot of goal-scoring chances are the things I expect to see from the home team. Nice has to play an open attacking game and are susceptible to conceding goals if they leave openings at the back.

The home team has more quality on their side and despite the average age of the team I believe they have what it takes to sideline Nice.

That said, Ajax to win for this one. Good luck!pin
