Lorenzi vs Lorenzi by Marci
First seed Pablo Cuevas (27.) should be considered first favorite, but he just returned from injury and lost both matches after return (Laaksonen and Kuznetsov) so it is questionable if he is ready to go all the way. If he is ready (didnt show it in past weeks) then he will be hard to stop.
Second seed Fabio Fognini (25.) is most talented but easy to burn if things doesnt go as he has it planned. He just won Gstaad which is his 5th title in career. Basically he is one of those who can beat the best and lose against the rest with same ease so I dont see him as guy who will win back to back trophies.
Third seed is guy I am going for Paolo Lorenzi (36.), Italian veteran who isnt lightheaded as rest of special Italian players, but to be honest he is no different than other challenger players. He is good at clay and that is all, he is standard player and there is not much special about it and I respect that, he is above average in every aspect of game and it is fine. This season he won a challenger (normal thing for him) and had some good appearences on 250 series tournaments (like this one), for example he lost in finals of Umag 2 weeks ago or semis of Budapest 3 months ago where he lost against winner Pouille.
If we look at draw we will see that Cuevas will first play against Basilashvili/Ofner which could both beat him and then one clay specialist from South America Olivo/Dutra/Zeballos/Delbonis before potential SF against Lorenzi who will first play against better from match Sousa/Youzhny which would be tough that both arent in declining, in QF Berlocq, GIraldo or Haase, again all 3 in declining. On other side which is far more tough we have Kohlschreiber, Vesely, Simon, Lajovic and even Hanfmann (played final of Gstaad last week) fighting for one place in SF while for other Fognini will be fighting with Kuznetsov, Belucci, Dolgopolov, Haas and Struff. Simply by looking at draw again upper side is much easier to reach finals where everything is possible. Paolo Lorenzi isnt a household name and even he is 3rd seed is far from being best player, he is defending champion and has a real chance to keep it his trophy (that is only ATP tournament he won and became oldest player who won his first trophy last season).
