First of all, let's get one thing straight here: there is no home team in this match, there is absolutely no home soil advantage! Both these teams play their home games in the same stadium, and this is Ilie Oana Arena, from Ploiesti, 70 km away from their home grounds in Bucharest.
Both teams have an aspect in common: they were promoted from Liga 3 to Liga 1, spending just one year in Liga 2! Voluntari did this 3 years ago when they promoted! Since then they had to win the relegation play-out battle to survive in their first season, and after that they have become the Cup Winners and Super-Cup winners in this season. Finally thay have a new-generation coach, Claudiu Niculescu, the former legendary striker of Dinamo Bucharest, the best free-kick shooter in Romanian history.
He has brought some attacking vision to the team, a thing they were lacking in the past, and the results were instant. They have a team with experienced players at the Liga 1 level. The owner is a great fan of the regreted passed-away Rapid Bucharest team and he gathered up ex-Rapid players after they have played abroad (Maftei, Costin Lazar, Bornescu).
Enough with this, Juventus is below average and with this team i see them clear victims this season. Comparing to last season when they won the Liga 2, they lost their best striker and didn't quite improve positions. Their central-defender, Alexandru Benga, was involved in a huge scandal last year when he was playing for Petrolul Ploiesti in a crucial match against FC Voluntari! Information was circulating minutes before the match among the Petrolul fans, that he would be red-carded and Petrolul would lose the match! Gues what: he gathered 2 yellow cards in the first half, the second one for playing volleyball in his own penalty box, comitting a penalty also! And imagine that Petrolul is a big tradition club around here, with mad fans!
There is no doubt for me that Voluntari is the better team here and they should win easily! The only thing that i am affraid of is the following aspect: these 2 clubs are 2 km away one from the other. Bucharest is divided into 6 districts. Juventus is located in the 2nd district and Voluntari is an appendix of this 2nd district. The owner of Juventus owns the main salubrity company in Bucharest, the owner of Voluntari owns an important transportation company operating especially in the 2nd district. They are business partners, they cross their roads in the 2nd district of Bucharest, but we can't smell something fishy just because of this. It is only the third round, it is a long way to go, but in the Romanian League there were times when 3 with 3 points calculations were made, keeping the suspicions alive >)
So, if you are a conspiration theory adept, you should skip this game. If you love dolphins and hope for a better world, leave the suspicions apart. And if you really want to bet on correct value for this match, take Voluntari to win this one! I will take -0.25!
