New England vs Philadelphia by PatrickBateman
New England are 10th in Eastern Conference with 23 points. They are quite far from the play-off zone, and their recent form hasn`t helped them in getting closer to it. They won only one out of the last five league games, and that win came last time out against out-of-sorts LA. It was another "classic" Revolution game, with attack-first philosophy, which came back so many times to haunt them. However, this time, it worked for them, even though the visitors were coming back on two occasions. Nguyen, Kamara and Bunbury were the goalscorers, with the latter one coming from the bench only five minutes earlier. New England will have most of their squad available, with Kobayashi and Kouassi being the only ones doubtful.
Philadelphia are 8th in Eastern Conference with 26 points. They are coming from a win against Columbus, which saw their run of three games without a vicotry come to an end. What they are yet to improve, however, is their road form which saw them beating only DC United this season. Victory against Columbus was a clear one, with Philadelphia dominating from the beginning. Ilson scored in 20th minute, and when Mensah got sent off for the visitors fifteen minutes later, Philadelphia were presented with a great opportunity to seize the victory. And they did exactly that, despite Alberg even missing a penalty. The game finished 3:0 and it surely gave morale boost to Philadelphia who will come here in search for points. Union will continue to be without Blake, who injured his hand in the Gold Cup final, as well as without Edu and Herbers who are also injured. Picault is questionable.
These two met almost a month ago in Philadelphia and Union won convincingly 3:0. The game was marked by a controversial 4th-minute penalty, with New England havng numerous opportunities in the first half which were stopped by Blake. New England`s defence has been very unreliable this season, while their attacking style of play has been ensuring them regular chances in almost every game. What`s been bothering them is the lack concentration in front of goal, but they still failed to score only two times at home, finding net at least two times in almost every other home game. Philadelphia have been rarely getting points away from home, but prior to Columbus trip, they scored in four successive games on the road. This is an important game for both teams, as both teams will need three points to get closer to the play-off zone. New England are in a slightly worse position and since they are playing at home, they will naturally be searching for three points. Considering problems in their defence, however, I think it`s unlikely that they`ll keep a clean sheet. I think Philadelphia will put up a fight and at least get themselves on a scoresheet. Therefore, I think that both teams to score and over 2.5 goals is the right way to go here.
