Mattersburg vs Wolfsberger by SPC22

Mattersburg
VS
Wolfsberger
Mattersburg is the clear favorite in this game. The team from the very East of Austria played an impressive second leg of the last season. With their coach Gerald Baumgartner and their striker and very important character Stefan Maierhofer (both joined Mattersburg last winter) they started a fascinating run and stayed in the Austrian Bundesliga easily after being last in the winter break. Although some important players had to leave the club (e.g. Atanga to RB Salzburg, Röcher to Sturm Graz, Farkas to RB Salzburg) Mattersburg started strong into the season. Although Mattersburg had one man more on the pitch from the 24th minute on against Rapid Vienna, they got 0-2 behind. After a strong finish Mattersburg managed a well-deserved 2:2 draw. Also they reached the second round of the Austrian Cup one week before the championship opener.

Wolfsberg had big troubles last season and they were really lucky not getting into the fight for relegation because Ried and St. Pölten were even worse. During the summer they also had some troubles between coach Pfeifenberger and their playmaker Jacobo with the result that Jacobo left the club. Also some other players like Prosenik (back to Rapid Vienna) left Wolfsberg. The Carinthians didn't manage to get good players to their squad, therefore many experts see Wolfsberg as an main candidate for going down at the end of this season. The start into the new season was ok, but not very good. They started with a very close 2-1 win in the Cup competition against SC Mannsdorf (Regionalliga Ost = 3rd league), followed by a 0-2 loss against a weak playing RB Salzburg.

For me, Mattersburg to win is the logical bet for this game. Another underlying fact is that Mattersburg won 4 of the last 5 home games against Wolfsberg. The much better form and the better roster makes an Mattersburg win very realistic.
