Beroe Stara Zagora vs Pirin Blagoevgrad

The hosts didn’t started the season as they would like. They drew both of their opening games. It was clear that Aleksandar Tomash’s squad needs a lot more fluidity in its game. There are several new players who are yet to blend into the squad. The opening game was a Stara Zagora derby as the team faced Vereya. The game was nervy with lots of fouls and both teams failed to impress. Logically enough it ended in a goalless draw. The second game Beroe drew away against last years pleasant surprise Dunav. The game ended in a 1-1 draw after Dunav managed to get a late equalizer through Miroslav Budinov. Beroe plays in a 4-2-3-1 formation under Tomash with former Levski man Borislav Tsonev dictating play behind the striker. The first game Pochanski lead the line but the second Negrut played up front and managed to score the single goal for Beroe against Vereya.

Pirin showed great home form last year and atrocious away record. The team has currently financial struggles and some key players left. Contrary to all expectations the team managed to open the season with a win over Botev Plovdiv. Botev were highly distracted by their European Competition games and looked error prone. Pirin got the lead in the middle of the second half and held it to the end. The second game was also a surprise. Pirin were heavy favourites at home against newly promoted Septemvri. The team failed to impress though and succumbed to a narrow 0-1 defeat at home. Under Radukanov Pirin usually goes with a lone striker leading the line. Usually that role goes to Stanislav Kostov his efforts supported by Daniel Mladenov and Dimitar Blagoev. Blagoev generally plays a little deeper on the left side while Mladenov has a freer role.

Both teams need more time to blend their squads. Beroe overall has better quality amongst its players and higher ambitions while Pirin has troubles and is yet to be seen if they will be financially strong to finish the season. This is a game where both teams are out of form but Beroe has home advantage. Last 3 games between those sides all finished in a 1-1 draw. At home Beroe has 3 victories and 2 draws against Pirin. My expectations for this one is a nervy game most likely low on goals. The odds for under 2.5 goals currently stand at around 1.6. That’s why I find more compelling to go for the home win. My pick here is home win for 2.20 at Unibet. Good Luck!
